




Foreign Minister of the Republic of Korea, H.E. Jin PARK visited Rwanda from August 11 to 12 and paid a courtesy call on H.E. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda discussing the Korean government's vision for cooperation with Africa and ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Korea and Rwanda. Minister Park also requested the interest and support of President Kagame on expanding the existing development cooperation to include ICT and futrue high-tech fields.
Minister Park empahsized that it is impressive Rwanda is growing as an ICT/Innovation hub country in East Africa by leading agendas in areas such as social and economic development and climate change response based on ICT capacity building. On the other hand, as Rwanda is the first African country that submitted a NDC(Nationally Determinded Contributions) to the Paris Agreement, he requested support Korea to host the 2030 World Expo in Busan where the climate change will be one of its major agendas.
In addition, Minister Park held a birateral meeting with his counterpart, Dr. Vincent Biruta, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda. In the meeting, the two Foreign Ministers signed the Korea-Rwanda Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) on Political Consultations and the Framework Agreement Concerning Loans from the Economic Development Cooperation Fund(EDCF).
Meanwhile, he visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial in Rwanda to memorizlize to the victims of the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, and paid respects on Rwandan people for their determination to face the tragic past not to repeat the heartbreaking history.
